RAMAN PREET KAUR
WHAT MAKES ME A PROGRESSIVE PRINCIPAL
I have got a privilege to work with national and international curriculum in my work tenure . Hence i have developed an integrated approach to meet the academic goals exploiting strength of curriculum. We are living in a global era and we need to prepare the future generation for the same.
MY MISSION AS A PROGRESSIVE PRINCIPAL
My vision is to empower students to acquire, demonstrate, articulate and value knowledge and skills that will support them as lifelong learners and my mission is differentiated, in depth and cohesive learning programs, highly effective teachers, focused in improving students outcomes and a quality inclusive learning environment that is responsive to student voice.
LEARNING BY DOING
Learn to write by doing it. Read widely and wisely. Increase your word power. Find your own individual voice through practicing constantly. Go through the world with your eyes and ears open and learn to express that experience in words. You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing and by falling over.
INTEGRATED CURRICULUM
My faculty members follow the schema of Selecting the theme, setting up Grade Level Objectives, Undertaking Case study Discussion & Questions to deliver the integrated curriculum.
INTEGRATION OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP INTO EDUCATION THROUGH FACULTY
The best way to learn these skills is to “Just do it”. It increase student interest, helps students understand connections, expands assessment strategies, keeps students engaged, compact the curriculum, save teachers time because it incorporates all subjects & draws on connection from the real world and life experiences.
PROBLEM SOLVING & CRITICAL THINKING AMIDST THE FACULTY
CATS (Classroom Assessment Techniques) comprising of Cooperative learning strategies whereby students perform more of the active, critical thinking with continuous support. Case Study, Reciprocal peer questioning, conference style learning and writing assignments are a part of the same..
GROUP WORK AND DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL SKILLS AMIDST THE FACULTY
The teachers can explain their own ideas and express their feelings in an open but non-threatening way. Openness, trust & self disclosure are the hallmarks of my principalship which I support and respect. Individual responsibility, management and organization & knowledge of roles is something I lay extra emphasis on.
UNDERSTANDING & ACTION BASED LEARNING
We adopt the following triad to seed understanding and action based learning.
Comprehend – Treat the study material like a story book.
Recall – After studying a topic, try to recall
Use your words- If you stop wrote memorizing , you need to learn the art of writing. They should be able to write the exam in their own words.
COLLABORATIVE & COOPERATIVE LEARNING PROJECTS FOR FACULTY DEVELOPMENT
Teachers become learners at times and learners sometimes teach. Respect is given to every member. Diversity is celebrated and all contributions are valued. Goals are clearly identified and used as a guide. Students are invested in their own learning.
EDUCATION ACCENTUATING SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SAFEGUARDING DEMOCRACY
All human societies, possess an inherent capacity to develop system of social control whereby the relations of individuals and of institutions are adjusted and common interest and desires are secured. This remains my underlying philosophy which finds manifestation in our educational programmes.
DESIGN & DELIVERY OF A LEARNING ECOSYSTEM WHEREBY HIGHLY PERSONALIZED LEARNING ACCOUNTING IS DONE FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL’S PERSONAL GOALS
We help students to identify their interests & abilities and support students in setting personal learning goals. Students are also facilitated to learn together in diverse groups. A culture of care, responsibility & well-being of society has been created. We assess the skills and learning styles of students to facilitate learning and promote personal excellence.
INTEGRATION OF COMMUNITY SERVICE AND SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS INTO THE DAILY CURRICULUM
We have chosen to integrate the themes of English, Family Studies, Drama, Geography, Physical Education, Design & Technology, History & Music. Through this integration, teachers expect students to understand the connections between the different sub-disciplines and their relationships to real world. The program reports a positive impact on achievement for who participate.
FUTURISTIC SELECTION OF SUBJECT CONTENT
I am fascinated by an Integrated curriculum focused on thematic units such as Integration of entrepreneurship into education; Strong emphasis on problem solving and critical thinking; Understanding and action as the goals of learning as opposed to rote knowledge; Emphasis on lifelong learning and social skills; De-emphasis on text books in favour of varied learning resources.
LIFELONG LEARNING AND SOCIAL SKILLS OF FACULTY MEMBERS
Soft skills such as communications should be integrated into instructions to students. Greater efforts need to be taken to adopt a student- centered learning approach. Planned teaching strategies should be implemented to include procedure to develop cognitive skills interpersonal skills and accountability as well as communication skills. Innovation and creativity in teaching should be encouraged and formal recognition to outstanding teaching should be give.
FACULTY ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION OF THEIR INNOVATIVE PROJECTS & PRODUCTIONS
Apart from setting out the Teaching Responsibilities, a Statement of teaching philosophy, teaching methods, strategies, objectives is emphasized upon. The Teaching Goals are set out for the Short term and long terms. The end product of teaching is the evidence of student learning. We also conduct a Colleague Evaluation from those who have observed classroom Teaching or reviewed teaching material.
PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY TO FACULTY EMPOWERMENT
In order to make things work organizations have the responsibility to remove barriers that limit the ability of staff to act in empowered ways. The organization has the responsibility to create a work environment which helps foster the ability and desire of employees to act in empowered ways. Think of empowerment, instead as the process of an individual enabling himself to take action and control work and decision in autonomous ways.
