WHAT MAKES ME A PROGRESSIVE PRINCIPAL

My vision is parallel with the national mission.  I am steering the institution in a sustainable way to make socially sensitive and globally competent citizens.  Children are prepared not for living but for life.  I lead by example as our school is the first school to have 45 KW solar power. I believe that school should provide ample platforms to cater to different abilities of children.  My school imparts knowledge with ethics thus promoting wisdom.

MY MISSION AS A PROGRESSIVE PRINCIPAL

Being a Progressive Principal will be source of inspiration for me to work with devotion. It will help to create a learning environment in school where staff and students work together as a team for educational enrichment.  My team will get motivation from my title and will work with collaboration and transparency to achieve holistic development of children.

LEARNING BY DOING

For every topic in Science, Maths and social science teachers prepare activities which are evaluated by respective heads of different subjects. Activities are assigned to students in groups to demonstrate in front of students in different sections. This increases curiosity and interest in subject.Best teaching aids are appreciated.  School organizes exhibition of different subjects where children explain their models. This helps in peer learning. Refer to https://youtu.be/xci9yJECmUc.

INTEGRATED CURRICULUM

Class 1 to 3 English, EVS are integrated as one subject.  Yearly curriculum is divided into different themes which are monthly. Theme based activities are taken collectively as single unit by different subject teachers.

INTEGRATION OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP INTO EDUCATION THROUGH FACULTY

Entrepreneurial leadership is inculcated through a school event names ”Academic Fair”. Right from designing the theme, fomalizing the budget financial Management, allotting stalls, paying bills and donating for charity is handled by students under the guidance of teachers.

PROBLEM SOLVING & CRITICAL THINKING AMIDST THE FACULTY

Question papers of different subjects are designed innovatively to develop problem solving ability into children. Different types and styles of questions are asked.  Assessment is also done by variety of means. Staff meetings are taken twice a month. In meetings class wise problems are picked up and solutions to these are provided to the teachers.

GROUP WORK AND DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL SKILLS AMIDST THE FACULTY

Students are involved in initiatives like mentoring and anti-bullying. Peer support services in coordination with counseling cell of school can bring about positive changes in the school ethos & behavior.  Exhibitions are organized by assigning and improve social skills (visit YouTube video-“OPS Exhibition: Teachnocon-2016”). School cabinet members work in coordination to control discipline.  School has different clubs where children of different age groups work together to solve their problems.

UNDERSTANDING & ACTION BASED LEARNING

Rote knowledge is never encouraged in school as teachers forecast activities before introducing the topic.  Assessment is done by multiple ways.  School has well equipped laboratories to support practicals.  Multiple teaching tools are used.  Subject wise exhibitions are organized once a year where children make models or do experiments. This promotes learning by doing. Students explain their models and their subject understanding is enhanced.

COLLABORATIVE & COOPERATIVE LEARNING PROJECTS FOR FACULTY DEVELOPMENT

Teachers are assigned group tasks for preparation of worksheets. Annual function and other functions are organized in groups. Teachers share their best practices in group discussion sessions.  I feel that staff has immense individual potential. We conduct bimonthly group seminars to pool the experience of staff to address different issues of teaching learning process. Seminars & Workshops are encouraged.

EDUCATION ACCENTUATING SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SAFEGUARDING DEMOCRACY

Future of any nation is carved in schools. Schools provide platform where children develop their social skill and behavior & patriotism. Students are given real life lessons on manners, values, etiquettes. Rallies are organized on cleanliness & environmental themes like plantation drive and save water project.

DESIGN & DELIVERY OF A LEARNING ECOSYSTEM WHEREBY HIGHLY PERSONALIZED LEARNING ACCOUNTING IS DONE FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL’S PERSONAL GOALS

We have developed digital learning system which is personalized as per the level of the student. Many students opt for “Khan’s Academy” for online Maths class that foster individualized learning.

INTEGRATION OF COMMUNITY SERVICE AND SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS INTO THE DAILY CURRICULUM

A school gains a lot from being an active participant in its local community. Our school has joined School Mitra programme where we have adopted one government school. Our teachers & Students visit schools as per schedule & share teaching tools & other resources with these children. This has improved their attendance in school.

FUTURISTIC SELECTION OF SUBJECT CONTENT

Digital world today requires ICT and Emotional Intelligence in teachers and students. Robotics club is imitated so that children can learn to apply scientific knowledge. EQ is important to develop proper social behavior. School has Sanjeevani eco-club working on environmental issues.

LIFELONG LEARNING AND SOCIAL SKILLS OF FACULTY MEMBERS

Teachers are provided subject specific and skill specific training sessions spamming whole academic year. As Mentor I identify micro level skills of teachers, like black board work, skill of questioning, question paper designing, manners of communication, use of relevant teaching-learning tools etc. They are appreciated for the skill they are good at & instructed to act as mentor of that skill for other teachers.

FACULTY ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION OF THEIR INNOVATIVE PROJECTS & PRODUCTIONS

Assessment of faculty is extremely important as it provide scope to identify the gaps in instruction and take necessary steps in time to improve performance of teachers. We have very specific indicators with no ambiguity, subjectivity or personal bias. Assessment of subject knowledge and method of delivery is judged by forecast in teachers in teacher’s diary. Behavior of students is reflective of teacher’s Emotional Quotient. Academic result indicates the multiple techniques used for improvement

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY TO FACULTY EMPOWERMENT

My philosophy of faculty empowerment focuses on providing facilities & creating environment in school which allows teachers to become co-learners along with students.  Staff rooms have been designed to be enrichment centers where interdisciplinary collaborative learning is promoted by providing idea boards. Teachers must have then online discussion forum for sharing best practices.
