Stake your Claim as to why You should be accorded the Privileged Title of Being a Progressive Principal of India for the Year 2018?

I should be accorded the Privileged Title of Being a Progressive Principal of India for the Year 2018 because since taking over The Punjab Public School in 2011, I have motivated students and staff to better their performance with each passing year.

The Board results declared by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) on May 14, 2018 have shown the upward trend. ISC (Science Stream), Lovepreet Kaur stood first with 94.3% marks followed by Dep Ensu Aggarwal with 93% marks (second) and Mansher Singh and Pranshul Sood with 92% marks (third) respectively. All the 21 students who appeared in the ISC Examination (Science Stream) passed with Distinction.

In ISC (Commerce Stream), Pushpinder Singh and Kazandeep Kaur stood first with 94.3% marks followed by Jaspreet Kaur (second) with 92.8% marks and Bhupinderjeet Singh and Haspreet Kaur (third) with 92.3% marks. Out of 39 students who appeared in the ISC (Commerce Stream), 38 passed with Distinction and 01 First Division.

In ISC (Humanities Stream), Aradhya Jain stood first with 95.3% marks followed by Bhavjot Singh with 95% marks (second) and Jasnoor Kaur with 94% marks (third) respectively. All 26 students who appeared in the ISC (Humanities Stream) passed with Distinction.

In ICSE, Trisha Banerjee stood first with 96.8% marks followed by Ishita Garg with 96.6% marks and Yashaswi Garg with 95.2% marks respectively. Out of 136 students who appeared in the ICSE examination, 115 passed with Distinction and 21 First Divisions.

In ISC, 11 students made the Perfect Score of 100 in Physical Education, 8 students achieved this feat in Political Science and 1 student managed the magic figure in Commerce.

In ICSE, 23 students made the Perfect Score of 100 in Computer Application.

In what all ways shall you use this coveted title to further your personal Mission & Vision of Education?

I shall use this coveted title to bring about the qualitative change in the education world. My personal mission would, of course, be to see The Punjab Public School in forefront and head and shoulders above other reputed schools of the country and abroad.

Learning by Doing- Hands-on Projects, Expeditionary Learning, Experiential Learning at the Schools principled by you?
We have the Robotics Club in our school in which children are give hands-on experience with the machines. Expeditionary Learning includes children going for treks in the interior regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Experiential Learning comprises Social Service Projects- Prayas (Effort) and Muskan (Smile) which are purely students driven projects. They aim to connect with the grassroots.

In what all ways have you been Championing Integrated Curriculum Focused on Thematic Units by synergising the inter-disciplinary expertise of your faculty members?

I have been championing the Integrated Curriculum Focused on Thematic Units in every activity of my school. Inter-disciplinary expertise of our faculty members find expression in wise inputs given by them in every presentation students make when they come back from Round Square Conferences/Service Projects and MUN Conferences.

How have you Planned & Steered through the Integration of Entrepreneurship into Education through your Faculty?

To solve a social problem to bring a drive of sensitising children, this needs to be taught:-

a) There is a club called innovative club which develops a mind set of growth and innovation amongst students.

b) Children are taking a project work infusing a teamwork and collaborative task. They develop soft skills as effective communication through debating and other activities to sharper problem – solving abilities.

We are trying in our school through young ambassadors creating opportunities to set new goal of education.

How have you laid Strong Emphasis on Problem Solving & Critical Thinking amidst the Facultyof Schools you have served?

I have exposed them to extreme work culture whereby every moment demands problems solving and critical thinking. We keep organising workshops for the staff for enhancing their skills. As a result, they develop critical thinking and come out strong in every situation.

What has been your personal contribution in terms of accentuating Group Work and Development of Social Skillsamidst the Faculty of Schools you have led?

I have involved them in organising free medical camps in the surrounding areas to provide succour the needy. This exercise involves Group Work and Development of Social Skills. We organised the 78th IPSC Principals’ Conclave in December which provided maximum expose to the staff in terms of enriching their social skills.

In which all ways have you been able to Thwart Rote Knowledge andIntroduced Understanding & Action based Learning?

I have been able to Thwart Rote Knowledge and Introduced Understanding & Action Based Learning by having a tie-up with the digital start-up called Detail Assessment (DA). There are weekly online tests on the content taught in the class. The students are tested rigorously to ensure they have grasped concepts clearly.

Coming out with Souvenir (Year Book) every year is an exercise in Collaborative & Cooperative Learning because the whole staff contributes one way or the other in bringing it out. Heads of different departments contribute variously to make it a successful endeavour.

I firmly believe that education accentuates social responsibility and safeguards democracy as in expressing dissent & difference of opinion boldly without fear of retribution. You will be surprised to know how our students put pertinent questions to the dignitaries who come to our school to deliver talks on various issues concerning our society and democracy. They are fearless while interacting with them.

Highly Personalised Learning Accounting is done for each Individual’s Personal Goals?
Yes, we undertake this exercise. There is an annual appraisal on their strengths and weak areas. This personalised learning accounting ensures better performance.

The Support Staff in our school is felicitated on Gandhi Jayanti. Organising medical camps is one such exercise which blends service with learning automatically. You do not have to exert for it separately.

To what extent have you been able to contribute/influence the Selection of Subject Content by looking forward to Ask what Skills will be needed in Future Society – Local, Regional, National, Global?

We are already working on it. We aim to go digital completely by 2020. The present day trends are incorporated and students trained accordingly.

As a Progressive Principal What Emphasis do you lay on the Lifelong Learning and Social Skills of your Faculty Members?In what all ways to you steward this?

I try to give them maximum exposure so that lessons learnt now will stand them in good stead in time to come. Every activity done in the school is replete with lifelong lessons.

I steward this by making them part of every project in the school. They do things right from the scratch which enhances their lifelong learning and social skills.

Do you Follow an Assessment Regime for your Faculty Members whereby they are Evaluated out of their Innovative Projects & Productions?

Making an annual audit of their working in the school is the step in this direction.

What’s your personal philosophy when it comes to Faculty Empowerment?

I am a firm believer in delegation of powers. This makes everyone feel part of the institution. They work vigorously and become high achievers.
